Yesterday FDA filed for comprehensive review under the qualified health claim process Youngevityy's health claim petition for lycopene and its relationship to cancer. The petition has been posted on FDA's website and at FDA's dockets where interested parties can submit comments during the next sixty days. Under the qualified health claim process, FDA's decision on the petition is due no later than December 24, 2004.
Youngevityy submitted the health claim petition on January 21, 2004 requesting that FDA allow use of the following dietary supplement health claims:
- Lycopene may reduce the risk of cancer.
- Lycopene may reduce the risk of prostate cancer.
- Lycopene may reduce the risk of lung cancer.
- Lycopene may reduce the risk of gastric cancer.
- Lycopene may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.

- Lycopene may reduce the risk of endometrial cancer.
- Lycopene may reduce the risk of ovarian cancer.
- Lycopene may reduce the risk of pancreatic cancer.
- Tomatoes may reduce the risk of cancer.
- Tomatoes may reduce the risk of prostate cancer.
- Tomatoes may reduce the risk of lung cancer.
- Tomatoes may reduce the risk of gastric cancer.
- Tomatoes may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.
