Infertility Study Results reveal that certain Nutrients can help....
Research shows possible link of folic acid to male fertility Folic acid, an important nutrient for women who want to conceive children, could also play a role in male fertility, University of California-Berkeley researchers say. A new study has linked low levels of a certain type of folic acid to lower sperm counts and sperm density. The research, involving 48 men, was conducted by researchers at Berkeley, the University of Alabama and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The study is considered preliminary, and its sample size is small. Dr. Paul Turek, a urologist at University of California-San Francisco who was not involved in the study, said that sperm count and density are only two of many factors affecting male fertility and that the study is not definitive. Much more research is needed to understand the complex role folic acid may play in reproduction. Still, Turek says, the study could prove an important contribution to a small but growing body of research focusing on how mens diet and health affects Antioxidant said to help fight infertility in men Lycopene, a naturally occurring antioxidant found in watermelon, grapes, tomatoes and some shellfish, seems to help improve fertility in men, studies conducted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi suggest. Researchers Rajeev Kumar and N. P. Gupta orally administered 2 milligrams of lycopene twice daily for 3 months to 30 infertile men aged 23 to 45, and measured the concentration, activity and shape of their sperm. Sperm concentration improved in 20 patients. Almost three in four patients displayed improved sperm activity and 63% showed improvement in sperm cell shape.
